Electronic Arts - Phase 2
Burnaby, BC

Electronic Arts, the world’s leading developer and publisher of interactive entertainment software, challenged MCM to create the next generation of game development studio office space. “If EA Phase 1 (completed in 1999) was version 1.0, then the new Phase 2 building will be version 4.0.”

The design of the studio reflects the qualities of a highly-creative, collaborative organization and expands and builds upon the design foundations established in Phase 1. An atrium space, with clerestory glazing above, spans the entire length of the building. The floors are connected with a series of footbridges linking the studio spaces together at opposite ends of the building and a central spiral stair connects the five floors. Art features were designed into the interiors to create focal points and dramatize the scale of the space. A photo-luminescent light sculpture, inspired by an EA game, flips, twists and turns through the middle of the stair opening, creating an interactive experience as one travels between floors.
